Greg with his grandparents (and Marcus Corp founder) Ben and Celia Marcus. Milwaukee, August 26, 2025… Grandparents and grandkids have a special bond formed by family traditions, shared experiences, and unconditional love. In honor of grandparents everywhere, Marcus Theatres® has a special opportunity for grandparents and grandchildren to create memories at the movies in celebration of 90 years of Marcus moviegoing and three generations of family leadership.

At Marcus Theatres and Movie Taverns across the country, millions of Magical Movie Rewards (MMR) loyalty members can enjoy an exclusive buy-one-get-one free movie ticket offer to a movie playing on Grandparents’ Day, Sunday, September 7.

“Watching movies on the big screen can be magical, especially when shared with family,” said Greg Marcus, third generation CEO of Marcus Corporation, parent company of Marcus Theatres. “Ninety years ago, my grandfather, Ben Marcus, was so mesmerized by pictures on film that he opened his very first movie theatre. Since that day, millions of families have come through our doors to see the latest blockbusters and special films for the first time or the 10th time. We are proud to be the theatre where family memories have been made for generations.”

The buy one, get one free movie ticket offer on Grandparents’ Day is a one-day event for MMR members. Those who are not MMR members can sign up for free at marcustheatres.com/MMR to participate in the Grandparents’ Day promotion as well as unlock access to exclusive offers, points for every purchase, and family-friendly perks.

Generations of Memories

To learn more about how grandparents and grandkids connect through the movies, Marcus Theatres recently conducted a survey of more than 2,000 MMR members. The results are fun – and sometimes surprising!

To start, nearly two thirds of grandparents responded that going to the movies is something they enjoy doing with their grandkids. While today’s movies offer plenty for multiple generations to enjoy together, when asked what movies from their era they love to share with their grandkids, the top response by far was The Wizard of Oz, followed by The Sound of Music and ET.

While everyone’s actual grandparents are their real favorites, the survey also asked what movie grandparent characters they like the most. The top favorite movie grandma was “Gammy” from The Proposal, played by America’s sweetheart, Betty White. The top movie grandpa was the legendary Peter Falk as The Princess Bride’s Grandfather, who helps narrate the story for his grandson.

This Grandparents’ Day show your grandparents that they are as wonderful as Gammy and Grandfather, or make more memories with your grandkids, by enjoying a movie together at Marcus Theatres or Movie Tavern. For more information or to book your tickets, visit marcustheatres.com.
