Standing Room Only - The Legend of the 12th Man

Synopsis: On January 2, 1922, Texas A&M played Centre College in the Dixie Classic in Dallas, Texas. E. King Gill began the year as a backup running back but quit the team midway through the season to focus on basketball. He was home in Dallas for the holidays and went to the game, serving as a spotter in the press box for a local sportswriter. As the afternoon wore on, A&M lost a number of running backs to injury. So, Head Coach Dana X. Bible motioned for Gill to come to the sideline and put on a uniform…just in case. Gill never had to play and the Aggies won 22-14. But the legend of the 12th Man was born that day. It’s the reason that all TAMU students now stand throughout the entire game to show that they too are ready to go if called upon. This film chronicles the story of A&M’s most famous tradition from the 1922 Dixie Classic, to Jackie Sherrill’s all 12th man kickoff team, to the modern day.
